2000 Attend Maui Rally for Hannemann

Close to 2,000 Maui residents packed the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center on Thursday, February 18 to encourage Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann to run for Governor.  It was the largest political event held in Maui in more than ten years.

The rally was organized by the Maui members of the E Ho`omua Hannemann
committee:

* Martin Luna

Attendees were treated to a locally-produced dinner of Maui Cattle Company steak, Kula sweet corn, Upcountry vegetables, and Roselani ice cream.

The live entertainment included a Chinese lion dance, performing students from Hakuoh (Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture) University, "Dance International Production," and "Manu Tenari and Friends."

Following the entertainment, Mayor Hannemann addressed the crowd highlighting some of his priorities: the economy and jobs, education, and protecting the environment.

At the conclusion of the Mayor's speech, the entire crowd began chanting "Go Mufi Go!, Go Mufi Go!"
