Mufi Hannemann on the Record of Decision

Mufi Hannemann released the following statement after the Federal Transit Administration released the Record of Decision for the Honolulu Rail Transit Project:

“I am thrilled that the FTA has issued a Record of Decision for the Honolulu Rail Transit Project. This document has been a long time coming. The ROD is one of the most important steps in the process of bringing this much-needed and much-deserved project to fruition.

It’s important to note that the ROD could have been granted earlier had the former governor been more supportive of rail. The acceptance of the Final EIS was left to our current governor, Neil Abercrombie, who signed off on that document a little more than a month ago.

I’d like to thank Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff, Senators Dan Inouye and Dan Akaka, Representative Mazie Hirono, Former Minnesota Congressman Jim Oberstar, Governor Neil Abercrombie, Mayor Peter Carlisle, and the many hard-working members of the rapid transit team for getting us to this point. I’d also like to thank the people of Honolulu who have been waiting patiently for this project since they voted for rail in 2008.

Now, with the release of the ROD, the pieces are finally in place for Honolulu to move forward with rail transit, create jobs, and deliver long-term traffic relief to commuters between West Oahu and town.”

Hannemann also appeared on Hawaii News Now on January 18 to discuss the impact of the Record of Decision: Watch the video here.
