Statement on America’s Pacific Century
I applaud Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s call for American leadership in the Asia-Pacific region. Having worked with officials in countries like China, Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines on economic, trade, and tourism-related issues, I have seen first-hand how important it is for the United States to engage with our partners in Asia to advance our common objectives. I was also happy to hear that the Pacific Islands will also be very much a part of this new American foreign policy initiative. As your congressman, I will work to support the State Department’s goals of strengthening our security alliances and enhancing our economic ties across the Pacific.
