Part I
- Be bold, be decisive, be flexible.
- Do your homework.
- Bring good news fast, bad news faster.
- Problems are not as important as solutions.
- No man is an island; a leader brings people together.
- Write it down unless you have a memory of an elephant.
- Always set the record straight (be open and transparent).
- Never base decisions on fear.
- Public money is not to be viewed as a personal piggybank.
- Emphasize the Mahalo Principle; thank someone everyday.
- Lead by example and live by core values: remember family first, treat people fairly, watch your health and make the job fun.
- Leave this place better than you found it.
Part II
- The glass is always half full, not half empty.
- There is no “I” in Team.
- Avoid the “Pretty Boy” and “Prom Queen” Syndrome.
- Half baked ideas, like half baked manapuas, are not good for you.
- There is no such thing as a dumb question.
- When adversity strikes, don’t get mad – get even.
- Hold your friends close but your adversaries closer.
- Save your drama for your mama.
- Check your ego at the door. “Always push the water away.” – Zen philosophy.
- Do what is right, not necessarily what is popular.
