Vision for Hawaii
“At the end of the day, it takes a leader with executive experience and a proven track record to bring people together and implement solutions to make our home, our Hawai‘i, the best place in the world to live, work and raise our families.”
– Mufi Hannemann
- Keep our children in school.
Public education will be a priority and there will be no furlough Fridays, as we strive to ensure that our keiki can compete in the global workforce. - Put people back to work.
Major public works projects, including the Honolulu Rail Project, will be green-lighted, creating jobs. My administration will work in partnership with and the private sector to reinvigorate the economy. - Make state government work.
Within the first 90 days, my team and I will identify and begin eliminating waste and abuse in government operations to ensure fiscal accountability and transparency. - Champion Hawaii’s natural environment.
This includes adopting the 21st Century Ahupua’a initiative which would reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and protect lands devoted to agriculture, recreation and cultural practice. - Show compassion to our most needy.
Temper fiscal responsibility with compassion, with a priority on developing affordable housing and
maintaining the social safety net to protect the most vulnerable, from keiki to kupuna.
- Protect and keep our people safe.
Encourage and support inter-governmental and inter-agency cooperation and collaboration at the federal, state and county levels for emergency management, disaster preparedness, and crime prevention. By coordinating the efforts of our military, police and fire departments, and
other first-responders, we can keep our people safe and secure. - Honor home rule.
In our administration, the model used to create the Hawaii Council of Mayors will be expanded so that the Governor and four mayors can work collaboratively. I recognize that the mayors are chief executives of their respective counties and the need for all of us to work together.
